Who

Our Kids Camp is for children aged 7 - 12. No martial arts experience is necessary! We keep the class small - approximately 15 students each week.

When

Session 1 = July 1st - 5th (We will have camp on Thursday July 4th!)

Session 2 = July 8th - 12th

Camp runs from 9 am - 3 pm. The door opens at 8:45 am and there is no after-camp option. Please pick up your child before 3:10 pm.

The daily program repeats each week though we often have children who do both sessions!

NOTE: We are offering a PAY BY THE DAY option this year. Any days within the two weeks for $75 per day!

What

Learn the non-competitive Japanese martial art of Aikido. Practice origami, ink-brush painting, and learn about other Japanese traditions. Travel to cultural institutions in New York City to learn more about the arts and culture of Japan. Outdoor playtime every day!

We have three field trips during the week: to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden to see the Japanese garden and the bonsai trees; to the Brooklyn Museum to see arts from Japan; and to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to see the Japanese swords and armor and Buddhist art.

On non-trip days (Monday and Friday):

Our day starts at 9 am and we do about an hour of aikido and games in the dojo. Then we do a craft project like origami or ink-brush painting. Afterwards, we head out to JJ Byrne Park (just 4 blocks away) to play and have lunch outside. We then return to the dojo for some more aikido and some quiet activity at the end of the day.

On field trip days (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday):

We start with aikido and games. Then we get ready to leave for our trip via subway. We arrive and play in a playground close to the garden/museum and have lunch outside there.  Then we spend about an hour to 90 minutes in the garden/museum before heading back to the dojo. We play a few games or do a quiet activity like origami before pick up time.

Cost

$375 per week. $50 discount for siblings. $50 cash discount.
