Thinking about joining Brooklyn Aikikai? Read more about starting aikido and check our schedule to observe a class. If you're serious about joining, we recommend considering the following points before becoming a member.

For information about joining our children's classes, please see our Children's page

New students are required to watch a full class before joining. If you decide to join, you are required to sign up and pay for three months ($350). This is our only contract. After that you may pay month by month ($125) on the first of the month for unlimited aikido classes.  All dues are non refundable.

Students are required to attend classes at least twice a week. It is recommended that you try to come at least three times a week.

If there is a week that you cannot attend two classes, then you must contact the dojo to let us know. This is a rigorous dojo and aikido is a difficult art to learn. You are likely to feel frustrated at times, but the more you come the less frustrated you will probably be!

Brooklyn Aikikai is a nonprofit, and monthly dues ($125) are not a payment for instruction. Member dues keep the dojo operating and open.

Whether you attend class or not, the dojo is open and needs your support. If you are away (for vacation, work, an injury) we still rely on your dues and expect them to be paid in a timely manner (before the 7th of the month or a $15 late fee is charged). If you are going to be away for more than two months you must speak with the chief instructor and request a formal leave of absence in order to have your dues suspended for that time. We encourage you to pay for 3, 6, or 12 months at a time (with a discount) or to set up automatic payments through our website.

Unlike many other dojos, we do not force you into lengthy contracts and have only a minimal annual fee of $60. Please note that all dues are non refundable.
